Why Java Is Deadly to Netscape:
www4.zdnet.com

Gosh Jerry, while you're all wound-up about Java's destruction of Microsoft, Jessie is saying that Java might destroy Netscape.

BTW, my personal opinion is that if Java is successful as a platform, it will hurt *BOTH* Microsoft and Netscape, as well as hundreds or thousands of other companies. Why? Because if it ever (and I do NOT think this will happen any time soon) becomes as utopian as guys like Ellison and McNealy hope it will, the software industry would be ruined....Almost no company will win if everything is a mere applet (that presumably, anyone with some programming knowledge can create) and you can just mix and match components together. Everything would soon become freeware! And there wouldn't be any upgrade revenue!
