JC, Re: Do you have a projected release date for the Athlon XP ‡+ ?

I think we'll see it on Judgment Day at the latest -- barring any additional delays.

More seriously: If the 100+/66 MHz relation holds up in both directions and if we keep the 1500+/1333 MHz data point in mind that would mean that an 800 MHz Athlon XP would get a 700+ rating. I hate to admit it but the rating looks a little bit arbitrarily IMO. It would be probably better to say that it's just a new way for AMD to label their processors instead of using clock-speed. The Thunderbird/Palomino performance relationship holds only up at clock-speeds close to those of the newly introduced models. E.g. at 2 GHz (model rating 2500+) the model/clock-speed gap would have widened from 11% (1500/1333) to 25% (2500/2000).
