I used to hold JP Stevens and Pittston before Pittston broke into three companies. For a long long time while these two companies bought their own shares, the stock price remained depressed. JP Stevens bought from private sources at a price way above the market, which puzzled me a lot at the time. In the end, both JP Stevens and Pittston went up manifolds.
