I don't get it. Carolyn's apology seemed to consist of explaining how she misunderstood you -- that you didn't say what she thought you said. So anybody else who may have said what she thought you said remains a traitor. As I recall, what she thought you said was that we bear some responsibility in all of this and that perhaps bombing Afghanistan isn't the best way of dealing with this problem.

These concerns are by no means stupid and nor, obviously, are such sentiments traitorous. the points of view in question require argument, not ignorant slander.

Good questions:

In what ways are we responsible for the Taliban's control of Afghanistan, leaving the country more or less high and dry after we'd done what we wanted, helping them get rid of the Soviets and leaving them with a stockpile of stingers that we're now worried about.

Over the years, to what extent and with what consequences have we supported more and less corrupt regimes in the middle east?

And is bouncing more rubble around in Afghanistan the best course of action, knowing that despite our best efforts and intentions, innocents will die?

These are good questions, that good and loyal Americans ask..
