As a strategy, the destruction and disruption of both the Taliban's and bin Laden's organizations should be America's top priority. Whatever alliances propagate that goal, however unseemly, should be nurtured.

At this very early stage of the war on terrorism, it's a case of making a point, showing bin
Laden and his supporters that their actions carry a much higher price than they had expected to pay. Whatever happens, including the possibility of crumbling Pakistani support, America must proceed with steely resolve in Afghanistan and finish what they came to do. Bin Laden and the Taliban surely calculated that they might see this kind of response. America must show them that they underestimated very badly so that other terrorists think twice before bringing down the wrath of America on their heads also. Are you listening, Saddam?
