What do you think? Intel is apparently gambling that the market will rebound with a big bounce, else why are they building this capacity? What happens if the bounce is just a little? By 2003, Intel will have P4 class processors at maybe 3GHz, okay say 3.5GHz. AMd will have Barton and Hammers at 2.5GHz to 3GHz. The processing power will be tilted towards AMD, despite the possibility of Jackson Technology and larger L2 caches for the P4. The total production capacity between the two will be almost 10 times the projected capacity of Fab30, or about 3 times the market needs if everyone makes Bartons. Ok, Intel will likely be making bigger chips than AMD on the average, but will the industry average be exceeding 3 times Barton? I doubt it. So we either see a big increase in demand, or Intel will be over-building on a suicidal scale. And wanna_bmw posits that AMD is over-building for their market. Intel is over-building for the whole market by a wide margin. Talk about the price war from hell...
