My apologies to the FBI. My frustration is not really about the FBI. . . for what they are entrusted, I'm sure they do a fine job. . .and are certainly overworked and underpaid. But America now has certain post-Sept 11 needs for organized security beyond the mandate of the FBI or any other existing large law enforcement agency.

Tom Clancy actually agrees with me and expresses a very similar frustration to mine. " For domestic criminals we have the FBI and police. For acts of war we have our intelligence community and the military."

As he so eloquently puts it, what we are missing is an agency that specializes in "finding out what a potential enemy is thinking before he is able to act. " . . .

With that in mind, read once more what I wrote. If I didn't know better, I would have thought he borrowed the concept for his WSJ article. . .

"The FBI investigates, the CIA gathers global intelligence, the National Gaurd protects U.S. interests from its own people. . . but who [is] thinking AHEAD of terrorists?

So my concern is not so much "against" the FBI as it is "for" a new group of agents who work strictly for the Homeland Security office. . . a group who's sole JOB it is to think ahead of terrorists and thwart their every move. . . using info and intelligence provided by all other agencies. I fear that Tom Ridge was given an appointment that lacks the teeth to reach into each of our communities.

The Secret Service does this sort of thing to some extent, as I understand. However, I believe that their resources are also stretched beyond their means. I am looking for a group of creative thinking agents, who focus on protecting the lives and interests of the people of the U.S., by using all available means and agencies.

Again, I apologize to the FBI and anyone else I may have offended with the expression of my frustration over certain issues.
