Dear Barbara
The press release I mentioned in my previous post tells that the second quarter results come out in early July. If they list subscription rates, they will be misleading unless they normalize them to subscriptions per week or something, for the reason that they opened the markets one by one. In the Minneapolis market Aerial has now competition from Airtouch, which just began to offer PCS services there. However, besides Aerial's licenses in Minnesota, the rest of the state is served by Rural Cellular, which turns out to be owned basically by Aerial. Hence the Minnesota market might by good for Aerial despite the competition. I don't know what is happening in Houston, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh. Piitsburg is attractive since I70 runs from Columbus to just south of Pittsburgh and will be in continuous service. From there Aerial customers can pick up Omnipoint, as they travel to NY, NJ, and Philly.
Regarding roaming licenses, you can check the web-page of Omnipoint. From there you can see who the operational GSM companies are and which oens have already roaming.
Omnipoint NY, NJ, Eastern Penn Bell South NC, SC etc. Aerial Sprint Spectrum DC and coast of Maryland PacBell California Western Wireless (VoiceStream) Wash. Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado Iowa (Des Moines), ElPaso etc. InterCell Tennessee, Kentucky ?
The roaming agreements between Aerial and these will be ready by first of September, if not sooner.
Talk to you soon, Seppo |
