One could probably assume that "Volodya" and Cree no longer get along, as he left them to start his own company. He might be under the impression that Cree didn't compensate him sufficiently for developing its key SiC IP:

Even offered sufficient money by Cree, he may not want to share the limelight with Shuji, Denbaars, et al.
