panic,

<Where have you been? >

Keepin busy and lost interest in AMD ....

<How do you evaluate AMD's position in the next 4 quarters?>

I haven't been keeping in touch as much as I used to earlier. Haven't heard either AMD or Intel conference calls, so my view is somewhat limited. With that caveat:

- AMD should do pretty well on the laptop side for the forseeable future assuming the 0.13 ramp is smooth and AMD consolidates all laptop parts into Dresden 0.13u process

- AMD should do reasonably well on the desktop side if all the processor production is moved to Fab30 (use the Thoroughbred die for Athlons and castrated Palomino die for Durons). That should help reduce Austin costs and increase overall ASPs. Since there doesn't seem to be anything below 1.3GHz at Fab30, if I were AMD management I would confirm 0.13 ramp is good (should happen by the end of this quarter or mid next quarter) and move Durons to Palominos very aggressively and look at using model numbers for the Duron family. (for example, start Durons from say Model 1600-1800 and have Athlons from Model 1900-2100)

But having seen AMD management in action closely over the last couple of years, I wouldn't be surprised if they blow yet another opportunity to make a good product transition and put pressure on Intel.
