Hi Gottfried - Thanks for the piece about Liquid Audio and digital watermarking.

I would be very interested if you may provide a URL so more could be learned about this. Headspace, a company founded by Thomas "She Blinded Me With Science" Dolby has already employed a digital watermarking scheme integrated with their 'Beatnik' technology for providing web audio.

As I understand Liquid Audio's business, they are primarily interested in web-delivered audio, much in the way that Headspace is, except that Headspace has already beat them to it, has an industry approved watermark, AND has been licensed by Sun as the audio delivery method for Java. headspace.com has the details.

The 'Beatnik' technology utilizes midi protocol built into today's standard audio cards (SoundBlaster, et al) along with custom samples to greatly enhance the sound quality from these cards. (Of course, midi soundsets have been built straight into the Mac for years *without* additional cards, but the masses seem to be blinded to the Wintel juggernaut - so be it). With Beatnik, an additional level of interactivity can be added via JavaScript allowing users to control and manipulate music with mousedowns, rollovers, and other triggered events. It will revolutionize audio on the web as we know it. (But I don't see much Jaz application here - sorry - unless you count that musicians may be creating their work on Jaz and later uploading it)
