Keith... you misunderstand.

Boycotting mid-east oil is the goal, not oil overall (that will require much more time)... It's about replacing ME oil with production from more stable and less developed regions, which now appears to be Russia and the 'Stans.

There's plenty of oil out there. The 'Stans are rumoured to have deposits rivaling Saudi Arabia, but they've needed pipelines and political stability to exploit it.

Well, they are about to get both, as well a much needed source of revenue from which to jump-start their economies.

The purpose of the boycott is to say:...

"If I'm going to pay for oil, I want a say in who it's purchased from. I do not want to put money into the pockets of a bunch of corrupt Arabs who make payoffs to extremists, and who openly detest everything my way of life has to offer"....

Screw 'em.. Plenty of other folks who would love to replace the Arabs as instant millionaires.

But longer term, I want to see the US to have no more than 25% dependence on foreign energy. During national emergencies almost any nation can squeeze 25% conservation out of their public and not face an economic crisis..
