<< I'm sure Cuba shares many attributes similar to countries that the US does business with. >>

I agree. For instance, the US does business with China. Sometimes your country has no choice, for economic survival reasons.

But, we as individuals don't have to support cruel dictatorships. That is a personal decision. If some Canadians want to party within earshot of political prisoners who have been tortured and imprisoned just because they expressed their opinion against Castro, then that is their personal decision. I wouldn't do it.

<< Embargoes do not appear to work. >>

Embargoes are highly successful. Since the US embargo against Cuba, Castro's exporting of terrorism has gone way down. Another example is Iraq. Give Saddamn Hussein more money and he would spend it on terrorism and weapons of mass destruction, not on his own people.

<< From all reports Saddam Hussein makes Castro look like a kindly playground supervisor. >>

Saddam has probably murdered more of his own people than Castro. This fact, however, doesn't give me warm, fuzzy feelings about Castro.

<< Some consider Talisman's operations there a repugnant act, since oil revenue eventually feeds the Sudan government who is involved in a civil war. >>

Sometimes one has to do dealings with the Devil. I don't know the answer to this perplexing problem.
