Is there anyone here who REALLY thinks that if a new government of any kind is set up in Afghanistan that it WON'T have to have our approval, i.e. essentially being our "puppet" or that of the U.N., at the very least, for 2 decades to come?

I really think that any new government won't be a puppet of the UN for 2 decades.

You've seen what's coming in microcosm with Palestine, except with more poverty and weapons, plus heroine.

We are not planning to occupy Afghanistan and build settlements for US citizens there. It isn't that similar to the situation in Israel / Palestine at all.

The soldiers going there will get strung out on 'H' just like they did in Nam.

I doubt this will happen in any significant numbers. We are not sending a half million draftees to fight in an unpopular war for years. We are sending small numbers volunteer soldiers, from the most skilled and disciplined parts of our army to a battle that enjoys strong popular support for a time that will be much less then the length of time that we were involved in Vietnam. I expect that the % of American soldiers strung out on H in Afghanistan will actually be less the the % similarly strung out in the US. Drug addiction simply wont be a major factor in this battle.
