In early last year, Intel had problems meeting demand with their .18u manufacturing. They added capacity, and lo and behold, several months later, the economy collapsed. I can hardly blame them for that.

Let me straighten things out for you. There is a difference. AMD plans to have significantly more volumes of .13u parts than .18u parts, even in a market that isn't likely to absorb these large amounts. Intel has just added .13u production, which I think is necessary just to produce the same volumes that they are producing now, plus a little more in case of an economic revival. I wouldn't have any problems with AMD doing the same thing, but their pattern has been to stuff the market full of CPUs, just so that they can claim record revenues per quarter. Compounding this with a desire to get to 30% market share, even if they have to stuff most of their shipments is a bad idea, IMO.
