first, it is unfortunate that I know extremely little of Islam... but I try to learn with time...
as for the verses you referenced, I will try to look them up and see first if the translation is accurate or not, and see what are the circumstances behind them... one has to understand and accept that some verses were specific to certain circumstances..
having said this, I like to address a different part of your post, namely where you say, and I quote "As far as I can see right now, the terrorists did what they were supposed to do, according to the Qu'ran, as I understand it. a very important aspect of Islam is that a Muslim has to honor his / her word or treaty... the Prophet pbuh did... so, when a Muslim applies for a visa to enter the United states, he / she has to honor that he / she has agreed not to do any criminal acts... otherwise he / she is breaking their treaty with the US Government which issued him / her that visa... and that is not an Islamic behavior ... so, it is very simple really, under Islam, a true Muslim should never ever do such an act...
the fact that some did so under the pretext of Islam should be shown for what it is... just a pretext... I actually sent more than one email to that effect to the media... but unfortunately, it fell on deaf ears... it does not serve their purpose... why stand up and clarify something about a religion you do not care about, for a minority you probably hate anyway, when you can exploit the situation and feed on the hype...!!!
