This is a feral population, IMO. They are lost 500 years before the present in social terms but have been given technology.

If that sounds elitist, it's because it is. The further we leave superstition behind, the better - and these people are especially mired in it. They have their 7th century book and they are trying to make sense of a 21st century world using it. How the heck is that going to work?

I'm sure there are some really enlightened Muslims. They just aren't in the hills and cities of Afghanistan or sub-Saharan Africa. Our previous track record in these little countries has been to create a relatively wealthy elite that keeps power by force, and leaves the masses impoverished and ignorant.
