A proud father....this was on 14th Sept.. when things were fluid, but little people like us were acitng fast sending emails to people who would make decisions.. Date: 9/14/2001 5:05:28 PM Post # of 905 I come back home to find this letter to President of Pakistan by my son Rayhan ....I cried \ I brought up great kids.. we fight with best of our ability..with brains.. Sir, I am a Pakistani student currently studying abroad. I would like to firstly congratulate you on what has thus far been an exemplary performance as leader of our country. Your performance has made a refreshing break from the usual petty politics that has plagued our country in the past. Sir, we are at a most critical junction in our history as a nation. The Islamic Fundamentalist groups have claimed a "great victory" in the name of Islam after the tragedies in America in the last week. They do not realize that they have signed their death warrants. America has been shocked into action, the mood has darkened they are baying for blood and they will get it. They will look at the total and utter destruction of the factions and countries behind this act. I ask of you to simply let them and come out publicly in support of them. It is our opportunity to make a clean break from these nefarious and aggressive factions that have blocked our progress towards success. 6000 Pakistanis have been killed in the last 5 years due to sectarian violence. To what end? To what purpose? We have resorted to posting guards at our mosques. Islam was supposed to be a great uniter not a divider. Why have we allowed ourselves to be subjected to blackmail to semi educated kalashinkov wielding hypocrite mullahs who spit out mindless rhetoric while ignoring the true message of Islam. The Taleban has mutated into one of the worlds most gigantic mis-creation. Their self destructive, incompetent and retarded approach towards managing Afghanistan has earned them few admirers and with very little effort they have managed to turn themselves into the worlds greatest freak show. Our supposed close attachment to them has also brought little but flak for our country. Their chaotic tenure is coming to an end now, America will ensure that now. Stand by America on this issue, let them take out our bad rubbish. The very role of Islam within our society needs to be re examined. Is it possible to establish a social and economic setup in any country successfully based solely on the teachings of the Quran? No Sir, it is impossible. It is simply too abstract to implement within a country. Each person unto his own. Sir I realize this leaves you in an unenviable position. Change is always difficult but it is what propels us forward. It is time for someone to come forward and with great courage admit what most of us know but never say. That Politics and Religion are not natural bed fellows. I realize that running Pakistan is not the easiest of jobs at the best of times especially not now. I would like to end by expressing my solidarity with my country and to you, a man whom I am finally proud to call the leader of my country. You have proven yourself to be a man of great steel and resolve. I admire you Sir. You have it within you to rewrite the destiny of our country and to radically change both our image and attitude for years to come. One day I will return and give something back to my country. One day hopefully.
