jcholewa, Intel has finally figured out that the suppliers were raping them once they got their tools etc specced into the factory they were guaranteed many more sales as more fabs went in, and at a high price since they were sole source.
Now Intel is in trouble on many fronts and can no longer afford this luxury so it has to get vendors at all levels competing and that means that all the vendors need some wins to keep them fighting for the business.
I would expect that this would affect tools where there is a drop in similarity in I/O etc to minimize differences. There may be some items that remain true to the copy exact philosophy for unique reasons.
