Question from a lurker. I enjoy this thread -- thanks to all who make it an interesting read.

I'm thinking of selling a little of my short term holdings to generate some needed cash, and replacing them with long term options in the same security (Leaps presumably). Can anyone tell me definitively if that would violate the wash sale rule makeing the losses non-deductible against gains?

Thanks again.
