It's a very fine line we have to walk between civil liberties and prevention of loss of further lives. Personally, I would have very little problem with a "truth serum" if such a thing really exists. I couldn't condone physical torture, but things such as sleep deprivation I'm OK with if a few hours of lost sleep coupled with drugs could lead to information that would save lives.
Naturally, we will need close scrutiny of the people doing these things to avoid excesses.
