Re: Servers with 900 MHz Xeon - 2M cache are listed on Dell and Compaq sites
PIII 1.13MHZ chips were listed as available for sale by Dell, IBM, and Compaq for approx. 2 months before the recall of the chip.
After the recall was announced, it turned out that the total number of systems shipped by Dell, Compaq, and IBM consisted of fewer than 200 systems - and all were shipped by IBM.
In the specific case of the 2 meg cache Xeon, it was listed as available for months when, in fact, it had been recalled and was not available. Throughout these periods, Intel claimed the PIII 1.13GHZ and Xeon 2 meg (900) were available.
So, we know from past experience that Dell and Compaq have listed systems on their websites, including letting buyers add them to their online shopping baskets, for months when the systems aren't available. We also know that Intel has routinely and recently reported parts as available that were not. |
