this quote i think one all need factor into their longer range market predictions as i feel the market is ignoring what the government has been signalling over and over, and that is ,after bin Laden, then Iraq(which would be different this time as the Saudi's won't support this)--i still get the feeling that too many Americans are thinking it is get bin Laden and game is over and they are shying away from comptemplating beyond that event.---- here is quote(i will add link at end)<<Myers said the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan was only a ``small piece'' of what he termed a war on both terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.

``And the goal right now is to try to bring down al Qaeda and to try to bring down the Taliban, who support them,'' he said.

The general ducked a question about whether he had ``started to prepare targets in Iraq.''

``This is a global war on terrorism and weapons of mass destruction,'' he said. ``Afghanistan is only one small piece. So of course we're thinking very broadly.

``I would say, since World War Two, we haven't thought this broadly about a campaign.''

By referring to weapons of mass destruction, Myers seemed to set out a possible rationale for attacking Iraqi President Saddam Hussein
(news - web sites). Since the late 1990s, Saddam has barred U.N. weapons inspectors who had been documenting violations of the 1991 Gulf War (news - web sites) cease-fire agreement on secret biological and chemical programs.

Myers was asked about Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites)'s comment in Sunday's Washington Post that the campaign may ``never end. At least not in our lifetime.''

``HARD-FOUGHT CONFLICT''

``I think that may be correct,'' Myers said. ``I think this is going to be a long, hard-fought conflict, and it will be global in scale.''>>http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20011021/ts/attack_military_binladen_dc_2.html
