My mistake...I apologize...I read too much into this earlier Inquirer article (see below), but apparently it was a limited courier action. Wishful thinking on my part...but given how easily the Athlon can catch fire, perhaps they "deserve" to be recalled <g>. AMD Taiwan pulls Athlon XPs Hardware Sitewatch By Mike Magee, 17/10/2001 16:11:00 BST OC Workbench reports that AMD Taiwan is asking shops to return unsold XPs because of a recall by the chip maker. No reason is being given... yet. And the latest news, according to our pals at Extremetech is that AMD - in the US at least - is denying it.
