Actually the square footage devoted to such items has been in serious decline at most CompUSA stores for quite some time now. Software titles are thick as ever, but those shelves that were stocked with internal modems and sound cards of yesteryear are now more likely off in a small corner while the endcaps have stacks of CD-R spindles. I was at the new Fry's in Austin last month and while they still sell motherboards and such to the screwdriver set I'd say such items accounted for no more than 20% of their floor space.
