Joe I've never heard of that computer manufacturer so I really don't know anything about the quality of their parts or their support reliability. As far as the upgrade price for the DDRam you can get 256DDR shipped from crucial for around $33 shipping included. What we're talking about here is Double Data Rate ram which is not Rambus ram. In fact, from what I have read it will outperform Rambus in most tasks by quite a bit. One potential problem (for me anyway) you should avoid is getting XP with ntfs instead of fat32. As I understand it, most machines with Windows XP pre-installed come with ntfs file structure. A combination of XP being the resource hog that it is and the performance hit with ntfs is a mistake for speed freaks. It is a mistake I'm currently saddled with. I bought a Dell 1.7 G 8200 with 256 RDRAM (Rambus 800) and am VERY disappointed. The system is very stable (so far) but my old Dell 450 98SE 256SRAM was much more responsive. Were I to do it over, I would order something along the lines you're talking about (DDR AMD and Win2000) and decide later whether to upgrade to XP after it's been on the market a while. crucial.com tc
