Hi BigBull; If the U.S. had had a total disaster at Pearl Harbor, and lost every ship there, as well as all the aircraft carriers, the U.S. would still have won the war handily. The Pacific war wasn't even close. If we'd sat on our thumbs for 4 years all that would have happened is that we would have island hopped with nukes, and it probably would have saved the lives of countless of our marines &c.

The basic fact is that the United States was much, much, much more powerful (economically) than Japan, and as long as the U.S. had the will to fight, Japan was doomed.
