<Concerning Friedland, the stereotypes will probably exist for as long as he lives.>

Absolutely, evident from a reading of "Robt Friedland and the great Voisey Bay Hustle". The whole book was about the "Friedland personality issue", and how he was prone to misbehavior, and rude conduct. His considerable accomplishments were brushed over as luck. Even prior successes such as Ft. Knox (Kinross) among others, were barely mentioned in that book. Most critics and even other junior execs, would be hard pressed to have had even 2% of the financial achievements of Friedland. And another leaf that other junior execs could take from Friedland was that he went more than the extra mile to take care of his backers and investors.
