Some thoughts on Capturing Bin Laden and his cohorts...
I'm curious about strategy here. If U.S. Special Forces were to capture Bin Laden and some of his top lieutenants, would you announce this publicly? I've been thinking about this and to me the answer would be ABSOLUTELY NO. Wouldn't it make much more sense to capture them, load them up with sodium pentothal, glean as much knowledge as possible about Al Quaeda operations - code words, communications methods, lists of cells and their locations, financing, partners, etc. -and then, after enough information has been gathered, to invite as many leaders and operatives as possible to a number of different locations, where they would all be likewise captured and/or destroyed and begin the cycle again? It seems to me if any of the Al Quaeda leaders are captured or killed it would be far wiser to hide this information from the public, and especially Al Quaeda's, eye, and to use this as a weapon against the organization.
Now that the Russians are working with us, and in light of the exemplary record of both the CIA and FSB (the former KGB) using disinformation and psychological warfare as major weapons in the Cold War, no one would be better at this than we two.
I'm interested in thoughts here about this. |
