About anthrax via the postal service:
DR: Market's gonna get hit when the post office realizes the gravity of their situaton and has to close down.
MargCol: that is just terrible about the po
MargCol: how are the people
DR: They issued one of those "big lie" kind of statements today about vowing to remain open
MargCol: what really makes me mad is why didn't they identify anthrax at the po earlier
MargCol: shit if it was at the senate office - it had to be at the po
MargCol: i can't beleeeve that
DR: "The mail must go through" is their mandate. But they'll soon realize that they are only aiding the spread of anthrax
MargCol: no more cases yet is there?
DR: 2 weeks since that mail was delivered
DR: That mail went through automated sorting equipment that handles over a million letters/day
MargCol: po employees should have been checked first
MargCol: i yi yi
MargCol: so it could be spread all over the place
DR: 2 weeks after it went through, the machinery still tested positive for the presence of anthrax spores
MargCol: wow
MargCol: i'm listening to the news right now
DR: That means 10 million pieces of mail had the opportunity to pick up spores
MargCol: two died today?
DR: those pieces of mail were sent to EVERY post office in the US
DR: It would be a huge leap of ignorance to think that any post office in the US is clean
DR: Every one of those machines, in any distribution center, sends 10s of thousands of pieces of mail to every corner of the US in just a few days or less.
MargCol: this is insane
DR: The PO has not even come close to addressing that fact
DR: If the machine still had spores 2 weeks after that letter went through there's absolutely no doubt that spores have now been spread to every post office facility in the country
MargCol: us house of reps closed, us senate closed, po should close
DR: yep
MargCol: right now
DR: There's also the individual containers, trays, trucks etc that move quickly and freely throughout the country. By now, dozens of other cardboard letter trays have come in contact with the one which carried the letters containing anthrax. Those trays could be anywhere in the world by now...laced with anthrax. Even just a few more letters sent through the system would greatly compound the extent of the situation.
DR: however...a monstrous amount of legal and financial information is sent through the PO...shutting down would be a greater blow to the economy than the airline shutdown in the week after 9/11
MargCol: fur sure
MargCol: think of the float on the money!!!
MargCol: that would be huge
DR: yep
DR: I also think that the next target...using the mail...could very well be the IRS when the next flood of quarterly tax returns are due.

The post office seems to have no idea how bad the situation is.
