PETRO-CANADA - Trans Canada Trail Pavilion Opening Marks The Planting Of A Quarter - Million Trees Toronto, Ontario, Oct 18, 2001 - As part of a special partnership with the Trans Canada Trail Foundation and the Tree Canada Foundation, Petro-Canada has planted 250,000 trees along the trail and across Canada this year. The 250,000th tree was planted with the assistance of a group of Scouts during a special ceremony held to officially open the first Trail Pavilion in Toronto.
"These trees were cared for and planted, one at a time, by an extensive network of hard-working and dedicated volunteers located in every province across Canada," said Boris Jackman, Executive Vice-President. "Their efforts are truly impressive and will be appreciated by future generations."
Throughout the summer, every time a customer filled their tank with Petro- Canada's SuperClean gasoline, they were helping to plant and protect trees along the trail and in other natural areas across Canada. A portion of each SuperClean fill-up was put towards the purchase, planting and protection of the trees. Petro-Canada also supported the construction of Toronto's first Trans Canada Trail Pavilion, located along the waterfront in Sir Casimir Gzowski Park.
The Trans Canada Trail is a nationwide recreational trail that will span a distance of over 17,400 kilometres, winding its way through every province and territory and linking 800 communities.
Petro-Canada is one of Canada's largest oil and gas companies, operating in both the upstream and downstream sectors of the industry. Its common shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol PCA and on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol PCZ. |
