US Ambassador Wendy Chamberlain Tuesday praised Pakistan for its support to the Afghan refugees and assured increased American assistance to help their needs.

The Ambassador along with Minister for Kashmir Affairs Abbas Sarfraz was speaking to reporters after receiving a US Air Force C-17 cargo plane carrying 35,000 blankets for the refugees.

She said Pakistan has been very generous "not just this year but for many years, in receiving millions of Afghan refugees streaming across the border."

Hundreds of tribal chiefs, Islamic clerics and other leading Afghan figures are expected here on Wednesday to discuss the future of a post-Taliban Afghanistan.

"We have invited more than 800 people -- leaders, scholars, chieftains of tribes," a source close to the National Islamic Front of Afghanistan (NIFA), the moderate group which proposed the meeting, said.

President of Turkey Ahmet Necdet Sezer will be arriving Islamabad on October 25 to discuss with Pakistan the situation in Afghanistan and bilateral relations.

In the CNN's 'Larry King Live' programme telecast early Tuesday morning.

The President said: "We took a very considered opinion, and I know that vast majority of the country is supporting whatever decision I took. Although it was a difficult decision, but we took the right decision."
