Certicom to Accelerate E-Commerce and Handheld Security for Leading Intel Processors

Work with Intel will Help Boost the Speed of E-Commerce and
M-Commerce Transactions

HAYWARD, CA, Oct. 23 /CNW/ - Certicom (Nasdaq: CERT; TSE: CIC), a leading
provider of mobile e-business security, today announced that it is working
with Intel Corporation to optimize Certicom's cryptographic and security
software to achieve greater performance using Intel's Itanium(TM) and Intel(R)
XScale(TM) processors. The software, which will be available in the new
versions of Certicom's Security Builder(R) (ECC) and SSL Plus(TM) software
(for the Itanium processor), is designed to boost the speed of e-commerce and
m-commerce transactions.
"The lack of speed and reliability in security is one of the roadblocks
to large-scale adoption of e-commerce," said Vaughn Mackie, Intel Director of
Enterprise Platform Marketing. "Certicom's delivery of high-performance
cryptographic software can enhance the breakthrough secure transaction
performance that Intel's Itanium and Intel XScale processors deliver to enable
scalable and protected e-business transactions."
Certicom is working closely with Intel to optimize its Security Builder
and SSL Plus security software for developers using the Intel Itanium and
Intel XScale processors. Intel's Itanium processor family architecture
incorporates unique features to provide breakthrough performance on ECC
algorithms, especially in the commonly used SSL authentication process for
establishing secure e-commerce transactions. The Intel XScale
microarchitecture is Intel's next generation Intel(R) StrongARM(*)
architecture, designed for better multimedia processing and improved
performance with lower power requirements for cellular and handheld devices.
"Intel is well known for its leadership in providing products that are
used in so many of the leading computing products worldwide," said Prakash
Panjwani, Senior Vice President, Business Development, Certicom. "Today's
announcement represents yet another example of the benefits of Certicom's
solutions to enable strong security for e-business or the wireless world."
