Unions are an anachronism. They developed in a time before such rights as worker's comp, sex harrassment laws, fair labor standards and other such rights were mandated by statute or established under case law. I think a good argument can be made for abolition. But IMO, the deleterious effects of forced unionization and political advocacy with the money of those who do not support union political aims far outweighs any benefit. The law regarding collective bargaining and the relative balance of power between union and management needs to be radically revised. I do not support outlawing unions but major changes are needed in the law and union structure before they prove to be less of a net negative on our business culture....
