Rumsfeld on Ramadan:

Pentagon officials are facing at least two factors in stepping up the military campaign. The approaching harsh winter season could hinder an effective bombing campaign. And in four weeks the Muslim holy month of Ramadan begins and any U.S.-led attacks during this period could stir up greater resentment against the United States among Muslim populations around the world, particularly in Pakistan.

But Rumsfeld suggested the fighting may not stop. "History is replete with instances where Muslim nations have fought among themselves or with other countries during various important holy days for their religion and it has not inhibited them historically," he said.
