I haven't followed TMO closely, as I've not been able to determine whether or not it fits my Trickle definition. But since it competes with Trickle holdings in the MS space, I try to pay some attention . . .
>>WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO - news) announced that it has launched under the Thermo Elemental brand name two groundbreaking products -- the X Series inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) and the SOLAAR S Series atomic absorption (AA) spectrometer -- setting a new standard for elemental analysis in quality control/quality assurance applications. Thermo launched the X and S Series at the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) conference in Detroit, Michigan, earlier this month.
``We're confident that these new products will firmly establish Thermo Elemental as the brand of choice with customers looking to enhance their capabilities in ICP-MS and AA applications,'' said Marijn E. Dekkers, president and chief operating officer of Thermo Electron. ``The X Series addresses the needs of regulated businesses such as pharmaceutical and environmental labs, where validated and certified results are critical -- providing unparalleled productivity, reliability, and performance. Likewise, the S Series AA offers the value and versatility that our customers demand.''
The X Series is the world's smallest benchtop ICP-MS -- a compelling feature for labs where space is at a premium -- and provides the highest productivity and performance standards in its class. Environmental users will appreciate the system's speed and validated results, while in research labs and other high-performance environments, users benefit from the highest signal-to-noise ratio of any quadrupole-based ICP-MS. The X Series also features Thermo Elemental's easy-to-use PlasmaLab(TM) Windows® 2000 software, which was developed leveraging nearly 20 years of experience with ICP-MS in more than 1,000 customer labs. The software has many built-in protocols to allow even the most inexperienced operator to achieve accurate results quickly.
The S Series is designed to be the reliable, workhorse, multi-element AA system. The most compact instrument in its class, it is a cost-effective solution for laboratories with high sample throughput. Each instrument is provided with the industry-leading SOLAAR 32-bit Data Station software. A fully automatic self-validation package is also available for highly regulated labs.
Thermo Electron is the world's leading provider of spectroscopy instruments, which are marketed under the brand names Thermo ARL, Thermo Elemental, Thermo Finnigan, Thermo Nicolet, and Thermo Spectronic.

edit: George, I haven't forgotten your question on the AFFX thread, re ILMN as a comp. I will look at that (ILMN qualifies as a BLUE H company, I believe), but I'm busy with earnings CCs (such as MDCC's on which I will post shortly), and probably won't get to it till next week. Thanks for your patience and contributions to date.
