In times like this we need to actively avoid gross generalization and stereotypes. Agreed... But I will stereotype in one regard. We are engaged in a struggle between values, imo. On one side we have the west, promoting tolerance of all non-violent religious values within a framework of secular government that prevents one religious belief from dominating over any other. This is not a value that has been promoted in Islamic states, where Islam is declared the official religion, but where others will be tolerated so long as they are not seen or heard. Is Islam unable to exist under a secular and democratic government? Well, that's the test that been underway since the time of Ataturk and his young Turks set the stage for Turkey's fledgling democracy. But that's how I draw the battle lines... Hawk
