The FIL wasn't interested in making money, but he wasn't giving it away.

When it came to cars, he was a true aficionado....a collector and admirer. He only bought US, so when I came home with a new BMW almost twenty years ago I expected a lot of heat.

But the guy went over the car apprising every detail. He really liked the car and pointed out stuff I would not know today. He had an eye, and when it came to cars he was like your friend. These guys ain't giving it away.

With his connections I owned almost fifty different cars by the time I was 40. So I never felt guilty about buying a German car after the first one; I kept General Motors afloat for so many years no one could give me heat for the occasional Porsche or BMW. I's still be buying GM if they had not closed the dealerships near me.

A few years back they decided to close all but Super-Dealers aka large supermarkets on the highways. They are too far away and I do not have a relationship with their service departments so GM effectively turned me into a German car buyer. I have a Ford Dealer who is a friend, but their cars don't thrill me. That new T-Bird is not as exciting as my '57 for example.

But, maybe next year Ford will have something for me.

Anyway, I'm going to toss this book. I'm certain DWK has a copy. Mentioned it because his hometown was in the headline.
