[World DRAM Price] Demand for Direct RDRAM Chips Steady; Inventory Becoming Scarce
October 24, 2001 (TOKYO) -- The worldwide prices of 128Mb DRAMs (PC 133, 16M x 8) have been in a downward trend, and the latest 30-day (Sept. 6-Oct. 5, 2001) rolling average prices declined for large-volume users and in spot markets.

However, demand for Direct RDRAM chips in October is brisk, continuing from September, and the inventories are small. Many industry experts say that Direct RDRAMs will soon be taken over by upcoming DDR-type DRAMs. However, PC manufacturers apparently intend to keep buying some Direct RDRAMs.

According to a worldwide survey of DRAM prices by ICIS-LOR, an information service company that has bases in London, Houston, and Singapore, the rolling average prices of 128Mb (PC 133, 16m x 8) for the 30-day period ending Oct. 5, 2001 for large-volume users were US$1.48 in North America, US$1.65 in Europe, and US$1.53 in Asia.

Compared with the previous week (the 30-day rolling average ending Sep. 28,) the prices fell by 3.21 percent in North America and by 3.16 percent in Asia, but remained the same in Europe. As for the prices of memory modules, the spot prices of 128 DIMMs (PC 133) declined from the previous week by 2.27 percent to US$11.79 in North America, by 0.74 percent to US$12.35 in Europe, and by 3.38 percent to US$11.35 in Asia.
