Admiral Leighton Smith is probably not your guy but he was "fired" (retired without foreknowledge) because he wouldn't play ball with "nation building". LEIGHTON SMITH: I guess it was Ken Bacon, who was going back on Secretary of Defense Perry's airplane, and announced that I would retire in a matter of weeks, not months. And that was the first I heard of it. And the way I found out was, I was on my way over to see President Tudjman, and his press secretary called me and said, "Our press corps's over here. They want to know why you're quitting."
