Paul
ok, the facts
1) intel sold 6-8 mill of p4
2) there is a huge shortage of p4 (as per intel)

so is it shortage on 6 mil or shortage on 8 mil or shortage on 6 to 8 mil?
Seems like Intel did not meet their projected goals and yet ended up with shortage anyway.

Amd's losses? Well, Intel is not capable to outrun amd on tech level so they went after market share. AMD lost some money but did not lose market share. Last quarter loss of .7% is minor and considering the intel claims of few points over each of the last 3 quarters intel lost the market share over that period.

AMD proved to be very strong competitor that intel can not push away. Bet on p4 did not work, bet on rumbus did not work, segmentation strategy is failing, diversification bet failed, capital gains backfired, and guess what intel is betting the farm on IA64 now.

And so far Itanium proved to be an outstanding product. <gggg>
