Indoleech Infestation Spreads-....."sweeping rights to demand increased equity in, and profits from, new mining ventures in the mineral-rich country. Reporter Raphael Pura says the proposed terms stunned foreign mining executives in Jakarta, who say they are not acceptable and if adopted, could kill investor interest in Indonesian mining ventures. The new contracts would give Indonesia the power to demand a seemingly open-ended amount of equity
in foreign-owned mining ventures as well as a large say in where and how foreign investors issue stock to finance their companies. The terms would also give the government the right to a portion of "capital gains" that foreign investors make on foreign stock markets from their holding in an Indonesian mining venture. Another provision would greatly restrict the employment of foreign mining personnel in Indonesia."
