"$10 of that amount goes directly to Joe Biden's and Hillary Clinton's re-election warchests"

I hope you are being facetious. I know the unions heavily support the dems. Doesn't it seem unfair to you that a repub in the union chips in for something he/she does not beleive in?

Also - thanks for the explanation of the health care cost, but it leaves me with more questions. Why do you think the company is ripping you off in this regard? I just quit my health care because I am a company of one, and it was cheaper to go on my wife's plan. I pay closer to $1,000 per year to do that, and it is far cheaper than I can get on my own. I know we look at things differently, but on the surface, it looks like your company is offering an outstanding value on her health care. Am I reading it wrong, or are you against anything the management does? You indicated they are charging this money because they didn't make as much money as they thought they would. Was spousal coverage free before? If so I think that is fairly rare.

Instead of getting a lawyer to see if the add on is legit, you could just compare it to what you would pay if your company did not subsidize it for you. The union's $400 per hour lawyer could be used more efficiently I would think.
