Congress apparently just passed wide ranging powers for anti-terrorism; can't say it makes me happy. I'd much prefer the authorities to be working smart rather than working so hard.

Post Taliban? Hmm, that sets a mind to thinkin'. I suppose the military victory will go to the Northern Alliance which will then hand over the symbolic reins of government to the octogenarian king who should preside over U.N. run elections.

Meanwhile, special ops gets freedom to go empty out the hillsides, cave by cave.

Otoh, maybe it will just be a military dictatorship with certain guarantees: free elections in 2 years, basic human rights.

But before it even begins to end, there will be a bloodbath of Taliban leaders, followed by trials and (foregone conclusory) executions of those who remain.
