MSI,

Actually, I had included a few comments about interrogation of Bin Laden in that post, but edited them as I wanted to focus on my main point. I believe that he should be interrogated relentlessly until we get all the information we can glean from him..... then properly dispose of him. Again, I believe that we should not be bound by the normal means of interrogation as this is a completely unusual situation that calls for unusual tactics that should only be used against those who have already shown blatant contempt for any laws or human rights.

" Do you think they will do any less kidnapping or forms of mass destruction if OBL is not taken, or somehow quietly killed? Not likely."

Actually it is more likely IMO. Bottom line, if he is killed in action, or captured & tried, it will martyr him. It will only bring on a huge increase in terrorist attacks & incite many of those sitting on the fence to join the terrorists fray. OF course this will force the US & our allies to really take the war against terrorism up several notches........ but at what cost to innocent men, women & children. If he simply disappears & plausible deniability exists that he is alive & in hiding, then there is a serious chance that things will not be anywhere near as bad as if the world knew he was dead or in our custody. Why stir the hornets nest needlessly?

Besides, it allows us the luxury of time to expose Bin Laden to the world for what he really is while we continue to 'search' for him. It is certainly to our benefit to have him presumably on the run than to have him known dead or in our custody. We can use this plausible deniability to our advantage while we root out other Al Qaeda networks.

I just don't see how it serves us any purpose to make public the capture or death of Bin Laden other than to let Americans feel better. I believe that feeling would be quite short lived as the potential negatives discussed above come into play.

Don't you think that those who share Bin Laden's hatred will be incited into action on a mass scale if we do make his capture/death public knowledge if/when it happens?
