Semtech Ranks on Forbes List of 200 Best Small Companies

NEWBURY PARK, Calif., Oct 17, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Semtech Anchors Position on List Despite Last Year's Economic Downturn

Which Adversely Affected Much of the Market's High-Tech Sector

Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq: SMTC chart, msgs), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, announced it will be featured in the Oct. 29, 2001, issue of Forbes, on the magazine's annual list of "200 Best Small Companies."

Semtech ranked No. 55 on the list of profitable American businesses.

Forbes stated that less than 1% of those companies eligible for this year's list actually made it onto the list. Last year's weakened economy eliminated many potential candidates. Especially damaged were the technology and telecommunications companies, which reported sharply lower earnings over the past 12 months.

To make the Forbes list, companies must meet some strict criteria, including a minimum 5% growth in sales and earnings-per-share (EPS) over each of the past five years. Forbes raised the revenue limit of list members to $600 million for this year's list.
