I love hidden messages too Thames. Did you ever get Children's Life with all the hidden pictures? They'd have a tree with a wrench in the grain of the wood. – I wonder how intelligence people do looking for messages in the static of the Internet? My guess is not too well. Or maybe really well. I guess we'll see:

I became knowledgeable about encryption because I wanted to understand random number generation. I wanted to replace my library function (16 bit) with a 32 bit (and later a 64 bit) generator. It turns out that you can use DES for this (and something called double-DES). Surprise, surprise. Turns out to understand encryption, you have to understand randomness, and vice versa.
