The big problem people are willing to articulate about the national ID card is - what do you do once people have the ID card? The concept of being stopped at security checkpoints for your ID seems un-American. Big Brother is watching you.

I think the big problem that people don't want to articulate is that they really want to look the other way when it comes to most undocumented aliens. Undocumented aliens work cheap, most of them pay payroll taxes, and they are afraid to use government services.

I like the idea, myself, given that a slew of the bassiches got driver's licenses in my home state of Virginia by the use of fraud. Further, most of them were apparently using fake names.

I don't know if we really have the computer power to compile the fingerprints of everyone in the country and match them quickly. Match fingerprints, DNA, retina scans. I think we don't. No matter what you see in TV and in the movies. But it's just a matter of time.

Pat Buchanan is looking smarter and the libertarians are looking wronger. Unfortunately.
