Joan, The main attitude I'm seeing is that people are preserving new contributions in low risk positions, but letting the old losers run. In most 401Ks, that means funds, and may not be that awful if the funds are decent. However, with the losses you are talking about, my guess is that the person was in some flyers. Many of which will not return.
