I was responding to an earlier rant, not changing the subject. Could it be that we stood in the way of their efforts to conquer Asia & the Pacific Rim, and control trade routes to the east? Yeah, we should've been fine with that. Why should we care about them? And who needs trade? We've got everything we need right here at home where everyone is like us. Screw the world! BTW, I know what jingoism means. Try looking it up and then reread that column you posted. (To paraphrase you - why should I do your homework?) If you'll open your eyes, you'll find plenty of jingoistic language for my proposition to hold true.
